This space may be small, but it sure is mighty! With day to day work schedules shifting since the pandemic, this space needed to be a flexible family space to allow for working from home during the day, and homework at night.

One huge challenge was the flooring. These doors remain open most of the time, and the existing hardwood throughout the home was recently discontinued. Not only was the colour unique, but the thickness and width were also challenging to match. Since the homeowner wanted to remove the existing carpet, we had to come up with a unique way to bring in a new floor, while still staying cohesive with the rest of the home.

We decided to go completely different than the existing floor, and lay it in a herringbone pattern so that it looked like an intentional change. The new custom desk provides ample storage to meet the demands of the space, as well as enough seating for multiple family members to use the space at once. The pop of blue gives the room a playful vibe, while still staying modest enough for those zoom video chats.
